Was in Willy Bains today and can heartly recommend him, top bloke. Wasn't taking any work on due to going on holiday but took the time to help me with my wheel. Even when I tried to buy something as repayment for picking his brains he ended up giving me it for free. I'll now make the effort to go for my spares in there. Nice one

Seconded - was there on Saturday and he happily took time out of a complex repair job to sell me some spokes for £1.50 :D after cunningly steering me away from the ones which cost £4.50 each :p

All round good egg

......and whilst there - picked up a leaflet about this........

i was thinking about taking over eastside bikes the last couple of weeks  i've got an appointment with an accountant on friday :D

only problem is i don't know how to run a shop and it would be a huge risk like

Has the price come down Eck? And will you specialise? the only other thing I can think of is is the location right? Edinburgh has a lot of competition, take a wander around and see what the others are like.

In that direct area Sandy Gilchirst used to have a good rep (not sure now though as things can change over the years) - check out that shop and see if you can work out their core business so you don't cross over too much.

I couldn't run my own business but I admire those that try. But you are right it is a big risk with family.

Ideas... could you take a "year out" with your current job and get it back if things go tits up?
Or could you run a shop with part time opening hours and work part time as back up (this could be too much work)?

At least you know there will be a few regulars, get the kettle on :)
