I had the Ascent Ex from the same year and had the same problem with the forks washing out.. I also put it down to the 150mm stem i had fitted
Can i say how cool a Turbo saddle would look on it and maybe a M-730 XT seatpost in black?

What a lovely bike. Some folks must need their bumps felt. Fancy throwing that away. The tyres might be retro but I seem to recall they aren't much cop on wet grass! I still have the scars.
