Yeah I'd agree to keep it as it is. I dabble in MTB's so when I want something I just scroll up and have a look.

Retro rides rule whether black or white - we are as one - united! etc, etc

What I do like is that you have moved the road forum all the way up the forum homepage now, much better and was something I was going to suggest.

Hey I know what about instead of having road and mtb with the sub headings how about dividing it up into mtb, road and classifieds like Bike Radar

i.e

MTB
Chat
Bikes pre 97
Bikes post 97
Kit

Road
Chat
Readers rides

Classifieds
MTB for sale
MTB wanted
MTB Ebay

Road for sale
Road wanted
Road Ebay

Perhaps this would stop me wandering into the MTB section and finding road stuff for sale that I never got the chance to dream of owning....

Just a suggestion of course.

I agree with most to keep them together, but not to keep it as it is because as you said John I think it should be possible to make the two sections more equal without too much hassle.
I don't really care so much about which section takes the top spot on the forum index page. I do like it the way it is now, the two sections on to and then there's the rest.
A RBOTM election would help I think. You are the admin, and then we have moderators. Maybe you could appoint someone from amongst the moderators, someone you trust and has more affinity with roadbikes like you do with MTBs, and let him administrate the roadbike section and give him access to post on the home page as well. That way there will be more road related news on the home page, which will help balancing things out. You could then colour code the road and MTB entries on the homepage.

Keep it together: many people I know ride old stuff on dirt & road. (Gets all mixed up in the shed, who knows what comes out next!)

Keep as is. Spend enough time on one site as it is - would not participate in one of them if there were two.

Maybe the real problem is the Roadies already have good enough places to go that better serves there purpose.

If not get advertising, get in road mags. Get road BoTM. Integrate them more basically.

or maybe 'general chat' needs to be pulled out so that BoTM, though currently general 'retro', is not lumbered in the MTB chat which is pretty much general chat now for most of the time rather than specific 'Retro MTB' chat :(
I know we have Off Topic but its hidden away down the bottom. Bring Off Topic to the top, call it General Chat or something better and keep MTB specialist, Road will follow and maybe eventually BMX will as well.

Hell in BMX there is next to nothing but they do have good other sites to go to.

The MTB part is still only a small group of people as it is

The whole site has a total of less than 9000, less than 2500 have 10 or more posts and 1126 have 50+ posts.

80 to 90% of that RetroMTB.

No idea what the 'regular readers' is. How many have been active in the last fortnight or week ?

Some interesting comments once again. Also hope the move of the road secton up the forum helps.

I'm not 100% sure that they do. Anyone else comment on this?

I'd concede that point. Myself and the other mods do need to work the road section more.

Interesting. It's not my perception that retro mtb chat is general chat. Myself and the other mods do work to try and keep in vaguely on topic. Putting OT lower down was deliberate, this is a bike site after all.

Agreed.

I'm sure with any forum the amount of people actively posting is a small section of overall membership. I'm a member of loads of forums and rarely if at all post to any. On the flip though we do get far more unique monthly views than we have members. Sure a lot of people are happy just to read the boards without contibuting.

I spend quite a lot of time in both sections - are you sure you would want the extra work?

A separate site would probably lose its friendly atmosphere. There is also a potential problem of bike snobbery creeping in as yet another Raliegh POS is shown off which keeps the spirit of RB alive but dilutes the high end or rarities.

I'm an accidental Greeny, any bike that is resurrected from the grave is one less cack BSO Tesco purchase so I dont mind the odd BSO in the MTB/ Road sections but there are those who dont and could spoil it for others.
