Got the gears to work a bit. Won't index shift properly but will friction shift nicely.

What are the disadvantages of friction shifting as it seems pretty good to me and indexed gears only seem to last one ride before they go out of sync...

As long as the top and bottom cogs don't de-rail surely friction shifting is the best way to change gear as a leisure cyclist. It's almost like having a Rohloff hub ;)

yeah no problems with friction shifting except you might not find the gear you want straight away and have to toggle the lever a little so it doesn't click. I use friction on my commuter.

Front mech? I'm going for 1x9 which is the new singlespeed ;)

It's all the rage you know, particularly with people who can't set up font mechs or singlespeed up hills  :? ;)
