Shifting Shimano with Campag Ergos

running 8 speed on my cross bike as the more clearance between the sprockets the better and less clogging

with 10/11 speeds a blade of grass causes the chain to jump these days !!!

and if you start weighing parts then you can save some serious weight by mixing the parts

shimano 105 black rear gear 121 grams £35
campagnolo record 190 grams and mega £££££'s

Well I'm going with it, so fingers crossed. Basically I want to use up my old Campag. So I'm going with....
8 speed Ergos, 7 speed freewheel, 7 speed Campag mech.

When the rear wheel goes I'll change to modern Shimano with a spacer and 7 speed cassette as the spacing of C & S is the same.
Then when the Ergos go I'll change to STIs and 9/10 speed cassette at the same time. So the whole thing evolves.
It's just a second cross/hack so I don't want to throw money at it.
Thanks every one.

no probs. I am using 8 speed ergos with a 8 speed shimano cassette. Any mis shifts, set it up in the middle sprockets and the play in the jockey wheels and chain will deal with any problems.
