1996-1998. Do they have the two letters together like U, V or W with another letter from A to L which will date your parts?

cheers folks,
brake levers: BL-M739
shifters pods: SL-M739
purchased over the years and fitted to different bikes, only realised the other day when tinkering around in the garage, that they kinda 'dovetail' together as one unit, eurreka moment

I've got some NOS ST-M737 SLR Plus STI units on the Vit T2.
I'd be grateful if someone could put an age to them and let me know what the 'SLR Plus' bit is all about. :D

SLR, 'Shimano Linear Response'. It was their low friction braking system. I think that they put a weaker spring in the brake levers and modified the pivot designs. They also used lower friction cables. The idea being that low friction in the system means an easier lever action with more power being transferred to the cantilevers. Don't know what was improved for the SLR+ ones though, probably just even better pivot designs or better return springs?
