how tight should chain be on a 3 speed hub geared bike?

basically as in the topic title: should I aim for fixed gear tightness - or slacker - when fitting the rear wheel and tensioning the chain (the main one, not the little tiny chain)?

It needn't be as tight as a fixie, after all you don't have the same danger if the chain unships. I work on something being able to deflect around 15mm from the straight line with finger pressure.

In other words, you should see some slight sag on the bottom of the chain when the bike is parked

cheers Ham, based on what you're saying I think I've gone from too slack to too tight now
