26.0 mm stem and 25.4 mm handlebar. Will it work?

I have a really nice NOS ControlTech road ahead stem.
This has a clamp diameter of 26.00 mm. But I would like to fit it with a mountainbike handlebar for my commuter bike. This is 25.4 mm though.
Does anybody know if this stem will be able to clamp the handlebar securely, without damaging anything?

Yup. Might be a good idea. Heard bad things about that type of shimming though. Will it wear out over time? Maybe I should use a strip of can from a strong beer, or something like that... ;)

I'm a big lad, and I've had a few beater bikes with coke can shims.
If you're really bothered, though get a piece of .3mm aluminium and make the exact one.

Just get a 25.4-26.0 shim for about £6-£7. Less hassle and no risk of slicing your fingers compared to chopping up a coke can.
