I need a new headset for my 93 Kona Kiluaea.
It has a (rather wobbly) Deore LX at the Mo.
What do you reckon the chances are of finding a decent impact headset are these days? There is one on ebay at the mo, but with P2s and Velocity stem.
Failing that, any recommendations are really welcome.
Thanks.

resell the forks and stem ina few weeks?

depending on price, you may get the headset for free :D

depends, want to ride it & headset last forever? easily king for around £45-65. retro restoration? look for an XT in the US.

Thanks guys. I called in a bike shop today and (naively) asked for a headset! I know it's 1" and threaded. Although I haven't stripped the bike yet, from memory the P2s are threaded on '93 konas?
The shop owner laughed - he thought it was hilarious!
"You've got two chances mate - none, and f*ck all! Get a modern bike!"
So after that professional advice, does anyone know what my options are?
I am not bothered (yet) about keeping it retro. I just want to ride...
Cheers!

There are some shops with old shimano in stock. Edinburgh bikes still have stx in stock. The bearings will probably go straight into your old lx if its the cartridge type and the cups are ok. Cheap at £12 too.

Deelam,

Check out the IRD Technoglide headsets. Although new, they offer a 1" with threaded and offer a lifetime warranty on the sealed bearings. Cost around 55 us.

I'm quite pleased with mine,

rody
