titanium is distinctly greyer than aluminium which tends to look silver. compare it to a simmilarly finished piece of ally.
The wall thickness of the Ti posts is less than that of the ally ones too if I recall correctly.
Finally you can do a hardness test - I'd use soething like a scribe or pen-knife to see if I could mark a bit of the tube inside and at the bottom - somewhere where it isn't structural. if it marks it's ally.
Out of curiosity is it an alien design? - if so has it got a machined top or are there no machining marks?
