Retrobike Rider
Hi fellow bikers,

See my Klein Pulse comp from '96 I tried to build up a bit retro.
(I know, this is not a pre Trek era Klein so probably not considered retro at all...)

quick releases > Salsa (1999)
cranks > Race Face Next carbon 8 speed (1999)
brakes > Shimano XT-V(1996 > yep, the first V-Brakes from Shimano)
derailleurs > Shimano XT (2003, arh, my 1996 stuff has worn out...)
cassette > Shimano 8 speed 11-30 (1999)
shifters > SRAM X-ray 800i (1996)
stem > Ringle Zooka Clamp On (1997)
seatpost > Ringle Moby Deuce (1997)
sadlle > Selle Italia Flite gel (2002)
handlebar > Easton EA70 (2007 > right! in a search of a retro handlebar)
bar ends > Roox (2003, I know, not realy retro at all)
headset > eh, dunno, it is a Ritchey (1999)
cage > Ringle H20

still a nice bike...?
is this semi retro rig misplaced on this forum?

happy trails!

Certainly not misplaced here! I like your bike: it's got a nice setup and cool yellow bits. Would be even cooler with a yellow judy in my humble opinion, but Marzocchi's work great.

nice build Obi-Wan-Mtb - i too had a Pulse Comp and still regret selling it

klein

nice bike dude, i especially like the yellow bits but....and its a big but....is that a rust bubble on the rear dropout? thought alu didnt rust.

It's the aluminium version of rust, oxidization. It's where water gets between the paint and the aluminium.

Thanks for the nice words!

Indeed a yellow Judy would probably look nice on this frame but maybe to much yellow is overdone....

About the "rust" I just noticed that on the photo :-( ....
But I think it's been there for long and not weakening the frame (I hope).

I know this is not a pre Trek era Klein but I bought it back in 1996 in the US being very happy to buy a Klein at all since the price of those here in the Netherlands was almost twice as much!

ride on!

That's a cool bike. Just get the 'rust' looked at. And it will last longer than us mere mortals.

mavic cross ride yellow > age?

Looks ace, just the right amount of coloured bits IMO.

Yep, very happy with my buys of the yellow bits.
Thinking of swapping the bar ends though, a bit to much?

What about those Mavic wheels:

Anyone an idea about the age of those Mavic Cross Ride wheels?
Are these 1999?
