its not true that you can use MTB in cross races
the rules vary from area to area and you are not allowed in national competitions.
dont think you can use them in the Welsh CU races
we allow anykind of bike in our TLI races but no spare ones only wheels.
have to say that cross bikes are easier and faster to ride than MTB on most cross courses, just like a road bike is faster than a mtb on the road.
 
Posted elsewhere but here's the IF that got me round the 3 Peaks earlier this year and the ex Rabobank team Colnago.
