I haven't really 'been out' on bike recently, only daily commute and the odd bimble.
I do have a few (too many) projects on the go though-'89 Trek 970,
Kona Kilauea, Diamond Back Ascent EX + a Stumpjumper I've been 'doing' for too long now.
I'm sure you'll find the GT a lot easier going and more nimble than the Orange.I'd personally put some rigid forks on it, job done and lots less hassle.
