:D

Thought you said the Lemond was welded up from gas pipe by a blind man?

yeah - was a nice bike. In a look at it and dream but not necessarily ride kind of a way.

Was too heavy - think that was it really.

Well on the subject of cross bikes can anyone tell me the rules with regards what is allowed for racing?

Can I convert a road bike?
Can I convert a mountain bike?
Can I use flat bars?

I know its a bit of a thread hijack and I will start a new thread if necessary, just thought you guy might know.

Cheers

Yes, Yes and Yes.

However.......

Converting a road bike would be rubbish tbh. You havnt got any clearance for 32mm tyres and no canti mounts.

You can ride MTB's in a cross race (as long as it isnt the Three Peaks) but you put yourself at an immediate dissadvantage. Cross courses tend to be fairly flat and fast, with little rough or technical ground. Much quicker to be ridden on 700c wheels.

Hope this helps.

ive got a Kona Jake but its not retro.... 2008

I love it and take it everywhere apart from very technical stuff.......it gets a bit twitchy then

Thank you very much for your reply. It was the three peaks I was looking at doing so that rules that one out.

Oh well......

Yeah, because of the severity of the climbs/descents on the 3 Peaks race, they ban 26"ers :(

rules are quite tight for that.

Last year they wern't bothered by Discs unlike the UCI but tyres bigger than 35mm were banned. as were bars wider than....something or other.

nothing in the rules about a cardboard bike though. Figured it might make sense to have one for the carrying sections (90% of the race)

;)
