Found it difficult to place a Amp or a Klein into the mid range bracket, likewise the Orange with Pace forks.

For me the 94 Kona Firemountain is the perfect idea of a mid range bike.

Come on guys, you could have spared us saddle and frame bags, pumps, dirty and/or mismatched tyres, crappy environments (backyards, basements, streets, etc) and cellphone photos.
Midrange bikes is what most of us can afford and although not being as collectibles as high end ones, they deserve the same treatment when you submit them to a poll, I think.
This could be a poll for the worst picture of a bike !

As usual for me, my vote goes to the real retro stuff.
So it's Senri's 1988 GIANT Escaper as n° 1 for me, unusual and clean.
And
n° 2 Dr S' 1983 SPECIALIZED Stumpjumper Sport
n° 3 rc200ti's 1991 KONA Cindercone

And for the best picture : Eastcoaststeve and his Klein (but those colors really make me sick !)

Tough one this as I think Tollers Clockwork is ace. Had to go for Ransetsu's C16r though as it used to be mine ;) and is in superb mid range nick. :D

Got it down to 3.

Mattbrown's Kirk
Lewis1641's GT
Jango's DBR

Too tight to call, so will have a think.

i tried to do something a bit different with my photograph - looked alright at home but its dark on work screen so a lot of the detail is missing on the bike. never mind, its a bit of fun at the end of the day.

as for mud on my tyres, i apologise! it is a working bike not a show piece, the pic was taken mid ride, hence mud.

There's too much fancy stuff with some of these entries. A Klein? An AMP? Swank Mavic hubs on the Cannondale?

I'm digging that Marin with the blue bits. I've never been a Marin fan, but that picture makes a Marin and STX look sexy, and that aint easy to do!

hmmmm, I've narrowed mine down to the following five:

stauqmuk's 1998 Amp B4

24pouces 1988 cannondale SM600

Eastcoatsteve's Klein

Oneschnark's Progear STX 1995

EdEdwards' Kona Fire Mountain

this is a weird month :?

the amp B4 is a little too late in history

I really like the cannondale, but those mavic hubs are too nice for this contest...crazy I know

So it's down to three:
Eastcoatsteve's Klein
EdEdwards' Kona Fire Mountain
Oneschnark's Progear STX 1995

anyone know more about that two wheel drive on the Progear?

My standard Cannondale SM600 was not allowed in the draw but another SM600 upgraded with expensive Mavic Dakar hubs and Mavic crankset makes the cut??
Gets my vote for the shear cheek of it

Some very un-mid-ranged bikes in the mix imho :?
Plenty I certainly couldn't have afforded by saving up my paper round money! (and my paper round was in Sandbanks  )

Personally I liked Andrewl's Cindercone, and Gonzalez's Muddy Fox, but the Raleigh Peak got my vote.
