1997 Kona Kilauea Rebuild Available

Cables

Anyone got a shot of the routing of the rear mech cable under the BB on this Kila.

I've run the cable through a Shimano cable bridge, and the cable runs very close to the underside of the down tube.

Nice surprise too - I was stripping down a rear wheel, to change the cassette from 9 to 8 speed, and found that the wheel has an almost unused XTR cassette. :D

I presume same as '97 Explosif?...

Is that XTR headset the one I pointed out to you from Germany? :)

Looking good

Thanks Wadsy,

Yes self same headset.

That's how i've got the cable routed. Very close to down tube on mine. Have to use some ring spacers I reckon.

Cheers

I found the little rubber 'donuts' slipped down as it's thin gear cable. I ran a strip of clear 3M protective film on the down-tube under where the cable goes.

Glad my search was fruitfull :)

Bit More

Gils Decals attached.

Temp cabling sorted - bit of outer shortening to sort.

Feels light.

Kila

Finished (for now). The chainset looks better than I initially thought. Nice combination of retro and new(ish) kit.

It all works perfectly. 8sp XT works fine with 9sp chainset and mech.

Feels more directional than my old '98 version.

Very pleased. Gotta decide whether I keep her now, as I'm funding another pie in the sky.
