HI

Great site with lots of great ridesa and parts to take me doen memory lane.

I got into mountain biking in the 90s after going on an introductary course with the YHA. This was riding an old ridgid Emmelle but it really got me into cross country.

I sold the touring bike and went and brought a Hoo Koo E Koo that had just arrived in the UK. The one with the chainstay U brake that clogged with mud and a yellow stem with a wheel on it. Loved and totally wrecked that bike!

As I live in London most of the bikes Ive had have only been in my hands for only 12 months or so. This has included a Specialised rockhopper, Saracen (cant remember)and a Kona fire mountain, on one Pompino.

Nothing top end but all steel framed, canti/ v brake rigid bikes. I love thin tubes and fat tyres and lust after somehthing that rides well but is also practical for every day use.

With this in mind and the Pompino getting nicked, I recently pulled a tatty 93/94 Pine Mountain frame/ forks/ red stem out of a skip and put some parts on it:

onza titanium bars
Kally seatpost
XT hollotech II chainset with DMR ring
XTR rear hub and sunn rim
melvin singulator and single speed cog
Parallax front wheel
Red DX V brakes
bar ends and saddle etc

Looks ok for London use and dispite never rating Marins very highly it rides surprisingly well.

Hope to get some bits from the forum and maybe upgrade at some point to something a bit more sexy.

It's robdeanhove

Hi, well I'm rob and I live in Hove and I'm currently whirling around on a '94 Kilauea ss and an anti-retro Soda with gears, suspension and made in a year that begins 20xx :p

Hi, I'm Iain and I'm a cheeky g!t. I'm here to sell my Lavadome, but I can't post links until I have at least one post...so here it is! ;)

Hi everyone

I'm more on here to look for Retro bikes, my current bikes aren't all that retro I'm afraid...

Santa Cruz Chameleon
Specialized Enduro
Raleigh RSP with Spins (I guess they're retro wheels!)

Great site, loads of awesome toys... reminds me of working in bike shops in the early 90s

New to RetroBike, not new to retro bikes!

How come I found my way here, u might ask...

Well a cycling buddy and myself were invited to join some younger work coleagues on a trip to South Wales, we did Cwmcarn, Afan Forest and Breckfa on those lovely sunny days the weekend before Easter.

My Proflex K2 1000 was the oldest bike there, with no others being greter than 2 years old and the newest just 6 days! And guess which bike lasted the whole trip with only oil as maintenance :) which is more can be said for my body.

Anyway for doing such a sterling job the K2 is now having new wheels, brakes, forks, saddle and bottom bracket.

I was going to buy a new bike sometime this year but having seen how well the K2 performed against those shiny new bikes I think I'll keep it a while longer.

Hi, I'm Tracy and I live in the US of A. I started riding MTB's in the early 90's. Found this cool little site looking up mountain biking articles. Been out of cycling for a few years but I've decided to knock the cobwebs off my Kestrel and try to get my lard @$$ in shape. I worked in a bike shop in Hawaii for 3 years and enjoyed every minute of it.

My current ride. Kestrel CSX w/Lawwill Leader 3 fork. I'll post pics as soon as I get some good ones.

Past rides include GT Backwoods, GT Karakoram, GT RTS-3, GT Zaskar.

Look forward to hanging out here.
