The mounting posts are Loctited in place and hard to shift. I found the simplest way to get them out is to run boiling water over the spider, which softens the threadlock and expands the aluminium. They then come out quite easily with a 5mm allen key.

In this manner you can run any downtube shifter you want as a barend/barcon. Hence, Mavic Barcons.

The other cool guy way to pull off Mavic shifters is to mount 'em on Kelly Take-Offs. This way you get shifting at the brakes (lighter than STI, more dependable, and less finicky, not to mention better brakes).
