The washers with the flat go on the brake posts before you fit the slave cylinder assy. The flat is supposed to face inwards and Magura suggest sticking them in place with silicon sealant (or at least the ones on the QR side).
You should have four of these for a brakeset.
 
The little red adjusters appear to do nothing,maybe when its fitted ill be able to see what difference they actually make......

they should move the pads in closer to the rim, to compensate for pad wear, if its working? it's fairly noticable, well it is on both my sets
 
i could never see the point of the flat bit on the washer, ive used normal washers and it seems to do the same job :?
