Problem with 8th gear

Please any advice on how to solve my problem. The chain wont stay in 8th gear (2nd smallest cog) weather its in the big or middle chain ring. All other gears work perfect. I'm using 07 XTR.

Is it dropping into 9th, trying to climb back into 7th, skipping...?

More info req'd.

drops down on to 9th (smallest) then jumps back on to the 8th. jumping round the two small gears

If 9th is working OK then it sounds as if you need just a little more tension on the cable via the barrel adjuster.

If that doesn't work try setting your gears up when they're in the middle of the block, works for me.

Silly me. just touched the barrell adjuster and all good. Thanks for the help.
