I have wanted an 856 ever since I first set eyes on one in our Moto-X shop come LBS.
The price tag was rediculous for a 15yr old and I had to make do with my Spanking new Univega Aplina 506 :(

Never saw one on the trails or roads, only ever in the magazines (and shop) so to me these were the rarest of rare!

Fast forward 13yrs and and I managed to get hold of this 856 off the forum and built it up with what i had lying around so I could get it upto Keilder to give it a shakedown, I loved it and it is a really comfy bike and climbs really well.

I have been picking up period correct XTR kit for this and nearly have everything I need to make a complete bike.

I have had the Frame blasted and Powdercoated (for free) in White  and am waiting on my decals from Gil_m (top bloke)

Due to some difficulties at work my project has now been put on hold so things like Rims, Spokes, Tyres, Pedals, Saddle will have to wait.

Bars are not going on just used them to mount the levers and shifters on so i didnt lose them!

Here is the current spec and semi built pics (Still trying to figure this camera)

Any suggestions welcome, especially on the choice of Rims and Spokes/Nipples....

Tony....

Bars will look good vs the red forks and a contrast to the white frame, silver post/stem.

Rims should be silver, with red nipples.

Feel free to disagree

I really want a silver/carbon Syncros flat bar but know what you mean!

I think i may strip and polish the forks and get Gil-m to repro the original decals.

Defo silver rims but depends on the forks if I go with red nips!

Are the forks aluminium?

Make sure theyre not magnesium or itll be dull once stripped

Ahh yes never thought of that! I`m pretty sure they could be ally as i ahve seen RST forks polished and these are re-stickered RST High 5s`!

Hmmm maybe stripped and re-painted red then! Or XTR grey???

Tony....

They are magnesium, and rebadged Hi-5s but with only 4 inches of travel.

I think the later yellow or black ones labeled the LTs had 5 inches of travel.

RST did a massive recall years back because the five inch travel forks broke.

Oh well then, thats that idea out the window!

The forks will be staying red as I have just got my decals in the post this morning from Gil-m and boy do they look goooood!

I`ve gone for the original decals but with the inner in red instead of yellow and the lightning strike done in yellow instead of white.
He also repro`d the "Factory Test" and I had the inner in red instead of white.

Will get them on today and get a few snaps out in proper light.
