I purchased an old litespeed recently, only i'm not sure about the sizeof the headtube. It has a king installed, but with spacers?

The proper size is going to b 1 1/8" or 1 1/4", pop the top cap off the stem, measure the hole, if it's 25.4mm the correct size head set would be 1 1/8". If it's bigger than that the it will be an 1 1/4" shimmed down.

That was what i thought, the steerer is 1 1/8" though.
But does that mean the headtube also is?
The only way to be sure is to remove the headset and measure the tube right?

If it is not shimmed down why are here spacers in between?

No, i would have thought that it's an 1 1/4", shimmed to 1 1/8" when 1 1/4" became hard to find.

Do you have verniers? Can you measure the outside diameter of the head tube on the frame?

Wall thickness is going to be around 2mm, so subtract 4mm from this measurement.

If you have a spare 1 1/8" head set see how far off the cup size you are.

Did some lightspeed frames not come with an alloy insert at the headtube?

I remember them having an alloy seatpost insert to prevent galling - I wonder if this was another of those short lived great ideas at the time?

Interesting... and we need more pictures :D

yup, this is basically a shim bonded into the headtube. ti isnt the easiest to accurately ream (cheaply) so a alu insert is used & bonded into place.
