I will take more pictures later.... too busy with work, school.... oh, and mostly riding :)

The XTR mech will have a long cage I guess, which will look a bit odd compared to a nice short cage road mech.

yeah, i know, but i want the gear range, and like the shadow carbon cage better than the looks of the dura ace mechs, i find d-a to be kind of bland, and its only something like 20grams more, ill see how it looks on the bike, and maybe i will get a short cage rear mech (especially considering im only running 12-23 right now)

& i also need a brake set btw (probably ultegra/dura ace... probably not zero g even though i wish.)

Are you planning on running a triple chainset ? Otherwise you might be better off with a 12-26 cassette and a compact chainset.

I run a 12-23 with a triple because I like a wide range AND closely spaced.

For looks I'd go with Campagnolo, but that's a personal taste thing.

I would have gone campy but all my others are shimano and i prefer sti action to that wierd thumb thing, im a creature of habit, i even run the xtr with the dual control on my mtb I like it so much. The xtr rear i like better than dura ace but also because the bike I ride now was my dad's, and he's always had a top end crank that was out of group (mavic starfish thingys, mines the fsa, just because i got a good deal on it)

campy is the ultimate bling though, take a look at the other quantum pro build for that, its BEAUTIFUL :D Im keeping a close eye on that

the compact crank idea i may go with, because it sounds like a good idea, or i may put a 51 tooth large ring on instead of the 53, im worried that ill top out the 50 though because i dont have an 11 tooth, what do you think?

and i think all the carbon will go with the black logos pretty well.

the wheels are some probably 1997 hed cx really deep wheels, 18 spokes radial in the front and 24 in the back. I might upgrade to clincher something or other, not sure if another aero set or not? what do you guys think

i got the dura ace front derailleur and need suggestions on seatpost handlebars brakes are probably going to be dura ace, im going to wait and go dura ace shifters

probably a selle italia seat? yellow of course. probably yellow bar tape? maybe yellow break housing?

thanks for all the suggestions guys! keep em coming

some pics might help by the way

so there you go!

That Mavic was the nicest Crank ever, I agree.

Provided you have a gear ratio of at least 4:1 (108"ish) or over you'll not spin out too badly unless you have legs like tree trunks or hammer down 1 in 5's.

Yeah, up until i started riding this bike (my first racing knick road bike, the other one is "only 105" and was built up for me as a young teen before I grew enough to ride this) I feel bad because ive added shoe rub on an otherwise mint set, but its not that bad the mavic logo is still intact.. just some shiney parts at the end.

its too big, slightly, the stem would probably fix that... and it almost makes me feel greedy for building up the klein....

I got my Fsa cranks and seatpost collar in the mail today, i have aDA7800 front mech on its way and the Xtr m972 shadow is on its way, i think ittl be kind of cool. im a mtb man at heart.

the klein should be leaps and bounds better than a slightly oversized steve bauer, with a pump and all, even the avocet :D

do you think it will make a world of difference? im going all dura ace with some form of carbon fiber seatpost and handlebars. probably the newest gen of dura ace so that i have the double internal cable routing

& @ hamster, watch craigslist, i got mine for wayyyy cheep. I mean dirt cheep. thanks to whoever sold that to me if they ever see this.

love the mavic cranks

makes me feel greedy building the klein.

but yeah ill look into the compact cranks, i like how the SL-Ks look on the frame, they came in the mail today but i dont think i need all 53 right now. cant wait to see the xtr shadow on there with the dura ace front and the cranks

In the end we all have to remember that the biggest effect on performance is the engine... :D
...and the £200 is probably best spent on a fitness trainer rather than spangly bits!

But that said I suspect that the biggest difference is in frame geometry and fit, and that material differences are much slighter than people would care to admit. A well designed bike is a joy to ride, regardless of material.

For me personally I love my 15 year old Litespeed with 1996 Record / Chorus mix and cannot justify another. It fits nicely and still works flawlessly.
