Saronni Colnago 82

I am not a roadie, but looking at this may make me change my mind ;)

these things are like the true silverware or cristal glasses
let them breathe some fresh air and be used.

That's what I always say !
why should these objects spent their lives in the dark and in stiffling air.
"God" made them to add the quantity of beauty on earth so lets display it !

hum, I am getting a bit carried away here ;)

fortunately, it looks big ! 57 or more ?
so won't be tempted to make you an offer

I think its a Mexico. It has got the crimped top and down tubes.

very similar to this guys '83 Mexico except for the stem pantographing

Discussion about Super/Mexico differences here http://www.bikeforums.net/archive/index ... 49275.html
I'm amazed to read that it may be Columbus 'Record' tubing. I've been eager to try this mega thin walled tube set for ages, and i find i might already own one! I'll weight the frame later and if its 1650g then its record for sure

Oh, yes - well guessed, its a 57cm frame

Beppe Saronni rode a Mexico. Stands to reason that yours would also be a Mexico. They crimped the Mexico all over the place, and I'm yet to see a crimped Super.

having said all that, have a look at what the late Sheldon said about Colnagos (about 2/3s of the way down) and make your own mind up. Either way, don't sell it 'cos it aint going to get any cheaper!

If you post a clear pic of your pedal I'll have a go at identifying it. My hunch is a first gen Victory or Triomphe pedal, but it could be something else...

yeah, youre right. I hadnt seen the crimping on the original photos, so I assumed standard tubes = super.

Hey Toff here are a few pics of the pedals. Early Victorys? Do you think they might be the originals?

Yep, Triomphe. One down from Victory. Either 85/86, or 1987 Nuovo Triomphe.

One school of thought says these pedals are period correct. After all, Super Record was produced right up to 1987, so both groupsets co-existed on the Campag timeline.

However, I would argue that the pedals are not period correct...

1) Bike is a 1982 Saronni, and whilst Super Record parts existed in 1982, Triomphe pedals did not.

2) The Triomphe groupset first appeared in the 1985 No 18 BIS Catalogue, along with C-Record, and Victory, wheras the Super Record groupset was listed in a different catalogue in the same year: the No 18 Catalogue listed Super Record, Nuovo Record and Gran Sport. The BIS Catalogue parts displayed the new winged shield logo, whereas the No 18 Catalogue displayed the older "world logo".

Not really that important, but you asked. :D
