stem

I have decided to put a new (shorter) stem on the bike.
Right now I have a (original?) nitto stem that is like this one but than longer.

This one would be ideal. But I can't buy it anywhere.
All modern stems I find are very diffrent. They clamp to
the stearingcolum. mine doesn't have that.

Does one of you guys know where to get one of these older models
preferably 70/90 mm long and 22mm mounting and 26mm clamp?

I just searched that stem in google images, and I think it's actually longer than it looks in that photo. But I'm sure if you look around you could find a shorter one.

It's in pieces at the moment since I snapped the rear mech off, I haven't ridden for a WEEK!

Everything on bikes seems to be expensive to me!
Ebay is a very good place to watch out for things like that though.

My poor old superlite has been falling to pieces lately... I managed to snap off the rear gear lever (it was plastic), so I've given up with gears, stripped off the front derailleur and am running it as a single speed. I've also flipped and chopped the handlebars into bullhorns

It looks positively vicious :twisted:

After inquiries on the Giant forum the bike (superlite) appears to be
entered production in 1992. You have one a model that entered the
market that year. It has a more 80's style typography but doesn't have
the fades/gradient like the slightly older (1993-4) models. Mine and perhaps the most common is the pink (distinct nineties) version, with the then new 105 assembly from '95-'97. Older versions have the sh-600 or campag assembly.

Since your serial number (the first portion) doesn't have any letters in between the numbers, I believe the frame was built prior to 1986.

G = Giant
MM = month
YY = year
I would decipher your serial code as: Frame built in Feb 1985 by Giant.
