Bike for the Alps

The Norman Fay I keep carping on about cost me about £45 to put on the road - a couple of component changes and a couple of weeks training: I wouldnt think twice about attempting some of the big climbs...

Now I do like the look of that...

Whats the gearing???

Surely this is the ideal trip for the merckx?

School the other on the climbs with your legs and dt shifteers then rule the descents like Yates in his pomp.

As usual, The Guv'nor cuts straight to the chase as this was exactly what prompted the original post.

Hmm, can see pointless late night fettling in the dark ahead.

As long as you have suitable gearing , any of your bike will be fine .

The correct gearing being a 12-21 clearly with a 42 up front.

Reckon a custom 11-19 (5 speed screw on naturally) would give a bit more top end grunt.....

surely a 7 speed straight through 12-18?

Guess the merckx has 8 on the back so you should be able to get a sesnible block.
