2001 (i think) orange patriot

So this is my first post here, thought i'd show you my old orange patriot as it's relatively old, to me anyway. Some of the componentry is fairly old, other stuff isn't, as i've upgraded it a fair bit since i bought it. Anyway, photo time.

Weight: 38lbs ish (maybe a couple of lbs less since i got rid of the dual crowns)

Just looking at getting new bars (black) to fit in with the black theme and another avid juicy 5 up front. That old raceface turbine crankset will hopefully be going on my carrera (see below) with a whole new drivetrain once i've bought all of that and some new chainrings for it. (the old ones have been totally eaten up!)

Ref the Patriot, Are they a pure downhill bike or can they be ridden as an allrounder , I only ask as I have seen them before with triple front chain rings but 38lb is pretty damn heavy

They were one of the original 'all round' bikes, so to speak. You can built them up pretty light (air shock/forks/XC kit), yet they also can take a hammering. 6" of travel (with correct shock - 57mm stroke), and can take triple clamp forks (was spec'd with Boxxers).

The 22x family was born out of the Patriot design.

I have a 222 '02, and the missus has a Patriot '02 (14" version)

I love Patriots! needs a Union flag paint job though (or some RAF targets at the very least).

Yeah, very much an all rounder, came with 130mm z1 forks which i think were stock. I did had dual crowns as you can see, but i didn't like them. It is a very nice bike for the age though

I was trying to get a Patriot7+ for an AM/do anything ride, but no joy.
Everyone I talk to who has one totally rates them.
A simple but strong design and only 1 bearing to worry about

Yeah, one of my local bike shops has a brand new patriot 66 frame (well, it's pretty much NOS, it's been there for years) for £650, i'd love that thing but i cannae afford!
