hi all

just starting to build up a 70s carlton frame into single speed - luckily the axle has been changed from cottered to more modern axle so i should be fine with modern cranks on there - thing is i want to get a stronglight 46T chainset but it says it recommends axle width of 116mm. I just measured my axle at around 140mm - will I have problems?

Also the bottom bracket is stiff as anything - u think new bearings and grease would sort it ? Dont want to change it as read how its hard as its non standard 26TPI thread

any info would be great

thanks
sam

140mm seems very long for a BB axle, what are you using it with now?

Are you sure it's a non standard thread, I would have thought a '70's Carlton would have a 68mm wide shell with normal British threadings.

hi

at the moment is just frame

well i read that if its 71mm bb shell then its non standard (i.e raleigh) - this pic is what side of my bb looks like

im guessing that its 70s - heres pics of frame

thank
sam
