RC100 Project started **FINISHED**

Its been a while sine my last update.

Work has been manic so little time has been available for the rebuild.

However things are still progressing slowly

The magura's came back from the powder coaters months ago and it was a disaster.

I sent them down as a sealed unit thinking the temperature would not be a great problem.
Big mistake. There are plastic seals around the master and slave cylinders that dont like heat.
These melted onto the cylinders causing untold problems. its taken an age to sort out between proper work  and tinkering.
But today i finally sorted them.

Pictures below show as returned from powder coaters, Reassembled and my home made bleeing kit and method.

They now work better than before and look the mutts nuts.

Enjoy

As for the frame, It being polished by hand one tube at a time and is also taking an age. it too looks the dogs danglies!!

The build is getting close to being finalised.

The frame is coming on great. See pictures below.

Still looking for a 36 hole silver 231 rim but will build the front one over the next week.

Do i go 3 cross, straight laced or snow flaked? tough choice

Finaly got hold of some ringle holeys though they need a little tlc to bring them back to life. one of the washers is missing they are the wrong colour and one is bent.

more updates to come.

Ive got them off the Current bike
Cleaned them up and am looking for Ideas on what style to lace them up.

Choices are
1. Radial
2. 3 cross (std)
3. Snowflake.

Check out the poll
http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=64280

When the bike was at its best as I remember, it had a snowflake wheel.
but am happy to go with the flow.

Great updates Damian,

I'd love to see it radial laced, but probably the sensible option is 3 x...who's for being sensible though ;)

I'm gonna keep a little update on the restoration of my RC100 bought from new many years ago from Horswills in Bournemouth.

The bike was last updated in 2000 and since then has been stored at my parents gathering dust.

It needs a fair bit doing to it but I'm sure it will be worth it in the end.

My theme is going to be Black and Silver, Possible using some Spin wheels. Not sure yet.

Hi, Nice project :D

What do you do about bearings for the bottom bracket and cranks? I'm on the hunt for some for a renovation we have on the go.

Cheers

I have a a bearing supplier that keeps them on the shelf or next day at worse.

you should be able to pick them up from any good bearing/transmission supplier.

Failing that I know places like RS, Farnell, WDS or Wixroyd keep good stocks of vsarious std parts, this might fall into that bracket. Pardon the pun.

If you have any trouble let me know and I can sort some for you out at cost + postage.

Cheers

The build is tantamount to completion.

Frame is on the last tubes around the rear triangle to be polished.

Struggling to find a sachs mailard freewheel(have only been looking for a day so not concerned just yet)

Some pics of the front wheel to keep things rolling in the right direction. ( Bad pun) ;)

Pace RC50 Hub
Mavic 231 36 hole NOS
DT Spokes 252mm
Halo Black Alloy Nipples
Panaracer Fire XC Pro 2.1"
Awaiting ringle holey to finish it off.

Enjoy the Pics.
