CHANGING speeds

is it possible to exchange a 7 speed for a 6 speed ?

watching a pair of hubs that have 6 speed ( freehub ? ) on , but need 7 ???

so can i just remove it and fit a 7 speed ?

Mmmmm, possibly not, it may require a different axle offset. With the seven speed on the end of the axle would be inside the block, if you catch my drift.

wasn't 6 speed , 126mm axle and 7 speed 130mm axle length ?? :?

change axles

If you have a six speed freehub and you want to change to seven speed you can use a longer axle with the same cones no problem.

just a bit of an update on this , in case anyone else wants to .....

it is possible , just a case of changing the axle and the freehub ,

but you will need to offset the dishing of the wheel by about 2mm to compensate for the extra length on the one side of the hub

Isn't 6spd different spacing to 7spd? Only applicable if using indexed gears of course
