What should we hoard today for future retro junkies

bad news when I am thinking the 952 on my modern bike might just slip back to a 96 model retro build without too much concern :?

You just need to find something really cool that doesn't really work to hoard...

Any top end Vee brake before everything goes disc.
Any top end Non disc hubs for the same reason.
Tune cranks (CBR lookie likeys).
Look road frames before someone like Trek buys Look.
De Kerf frames, for the same reason.
Single speed frames and hubs as I fear this is a passing trend and will be trounced by better lighter FS XC bikes.

IMO ;)

Selle Italia sem to have re-designed the basic flite (saw in a pro cycling I think) and it's not the simple elegant thing it was, maybe they should get snapped up?

Ooh good question! Scant, 8 speed's already retro! Lemme see. Definitely UN73 BBs; you never know when they're gonna stop making those fine bits of engineering. Any spline-to-six bolt converter rings for when they ( again ) discontiniue the current excellent hubs. One inch Dura Ace headsets ( the patent is bound to run out on Aheadsetsâ„¢ some day soon and that's when Shimano will pounce and abandon the threaded wonder. Mavic V brake rims in case they go totally disc braked for 26" rims one day soon. Also any 28.6 " conventional " bottom pull deraillieurs, they're becoming a bugger to find for me Karate Monkey.

Yeah, but... surely you're not going to make any money in real terms on them? Fine, do it for nostalgia's sake, but I don't think it'll ever be a money spinner... perhaps I'm sticking my neck out here but has anybody actually made any money over and above what they paid for something new a few years ago in real terms?

I guess the exception is stuff bought second hand dead cheap which then appreciates...

masses of 8spd still on ebay ;)
I know of a M900XTR 28.6 " conventional " bottom pull deraillieurs. PM me ;)

For me it's about still being able to ride rim brakes etc and not be pushed into a new bike etc through obsolencence. But also, top end stuff just ain't as nice as it was is it? I'm sure it all works better, but there doesn't appear to be the choice there once was.

Most of my retro stuff lives on modern bikes as a way of riding a current bike but still living in the hey day etc.

1 of the first threads ever (if not the first thread?) was entitled "is the internet to blame for the lack of roadside pornography" nice 1 john ;)
