Greetings everyone! I'm a new recruit from GoldenEraMTB living in New York City. I'm happy to have found this community, it really has been wonderful seeing all the great stuff out there.
I wanted to show this Springs build. I bought this frame locally a few years back. Through minimal research I believe it to be a '95ish Voodoo Bizango. Not exactly sure of the year, so any help would be appreciated.
It came with the Sugino cranks, Titec/Bontrager post, Judy SL (everything was melted inside), Answer atac dh stem, Aheadset, shimano bb, lx hubs on ritchey rims.
Here is how I built it up.
Not a traditional build at all really. I just used my parts bin to see what I could put together. Superfly fork, Wildgripper tires, matching NOS bontrager race lite bar, Avid levers, Betsy shifters and rear mech., xtr front. I bought a new cassette, chain, and Thomson stem.
The frame itself was cosmetically not so great. It hadn't been cleaned in a long time when I got it. I spent a good amount of time cleaning it up, getting the grease out of the nooks and crannies. There is only one small ding from a lever on the top tube, and quite a few paint chips all about the frame. Only one has a slight amount of visible rust (any help on what to do about the rust would be helpful). When building the bike I ran in to an issue running the cables, and this might help date the frame. At the seat tube - top tube junction instead of an easy to fit cable routing were proprietary humps.
You can see I came to a solution, but I have no idea what could have gone through these when the frame was new. I ended up using a gore ride-on internal part for the rear mech cable and a custom machined part for the rear brake. I had that silver metal piece lying about and dremeled it out a bit so it would fit smoothly around the curve of the tube and snugly into the odd routing.
Other than the cable routing issue everything seemed to go well with the build. Here are a few more photos of component highlights and frame condition.
I really would like to get some proper internals for the Judy as it is one of the original mid 90's yelllow ones. Any ideas on where to get an aftermarket spring kit would be helpful. The steerer in the Bomber is almost to short for comfort so that is the next thing I need to work on. I've considered selling this bike in order to buy more Bontragers, but it rides really nice so I'm conflicted. The top tube seems to be very long on this frame and it really lowers me and makes for a super aggressive climbing position.
As this is my first bike post here let me know if this many photos all at once is ok. I'm a photographer by trade and tend to super document my bikes.
