Look at this from a wel lknown resprayer:

Ruddy expensive or what. My Msteel Goat repaint came to 135 delivered if I recall:

Thank you for your enquiry.

Enamel stem £25.00

Paint mixing charge £10.00 - £25.00 (depends on colour required)

Fitting and lacquer over charge for transfers £20.00 (your supply)

Estimated total Inc vat £150.00 - £165.00

*We only offer a "Stove Enamel" paint finish not powder coat. The colour can be a Gloss or Satin finish at not extra cost for either option.

Our average turnaround is two weeks.

Don't know Jez, common pricing I see is around 300 - 350 american for a custom spray from a reputable company.

It typically costs me about 150 per frame in materials when I do it myself using Dupont Imron or PPG Radiance colors. Now add in frame prep (chemical strip, acid wash, glass beading, etching coat), a minimum of two primer coats, color (which may have up to three steps for pearls, candies), decals, sanding between coats, two coats of clear and baking and you've got some time wrapped up in a respray.

If done right, new paint should last a good ten years when ridden and forever as a garage queen :p

Yeah I imagine thats the cost for a flamboyant custome job, but this quote is for a single basic enamel!

Msteel did a fantastic job of the Goat ( 2 colour fade - difficult to do I bet) apply decals add badge etc. Well worth the £135.

I only want a green powdercoat. Bit excessive I think - especially when you hear of other companies offering 40 quid for a single colour.

Who was that? I'm sure Argos are cheaper than that.

Do you know Alex Baker. Try and finbd out where he gets his solitude cycles sprayed up.

That quote was direct from Argos!

Shows what I know. Have a word with Alex via his solitude website, see where he gets them done.

realistic pricing?

I got my FRO frame powdercoated for £30 including delivery. I got the accutrax forks colour matched respray for £15. total frameset including forks, bar, stem etc cost £50 (thru a car body shop)

Just approach some car body shops in your local area :)

Mike is right (he'll love to hear that!), powder is MUCH cheaper than wet paint for refinishing bikes; less prep, less work, no paint recovery.

Often auto places do not have the skill to wet paint small diameter tubing and get full coverage without runs. With powder, the electrostatic properties pull the powder where it needs to go, reducing the skill requirements of the person applying the coating.

I can get a frame/fork done for 50 bucks in a single color, clear included!

Good luck Jez!

so far at least I havent had any problem with non bike specialist places producing the quality paint (IE runs etc) its more a case of them knowing where not to paint! IE inside headtubes, BBrackets, seattubes etc. Mask off like crazy & leave a note on where NOT to paint!
