Knee Pain

Same as me not so long ago and still not perfect. Could be you have pulled your tendons....rest and ice. I did neither hence it is still with me.
But...I'm not a doctor...get it looked at ;)
Cheers, Carl

something went snap crackle & pop in my knee about 4yrs ago NHS couldnt find anything wrong with it after seeing 2 specialists and having keyhole surgery on it.

been seeing a chiropractor for the last 5-6 months she was able to diagnose the problem as Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome (something the NHS was unable to do).

tryed going out on my bike a few times (short 10 min stints nothing major) during the last 4yrs, everytime resulting in serious pain for about 3 days afterwards.

however after seeing this chiro and doing the various excersises shes given me i went out on my bike earlier this evening for another 10 min stint and the only thing that was hurting afterwards was my thighs damn they ached lol.

as long as the weathers nice tomorrow i mite try for a bit longer.

but defo go to see your GP 1st, next try a sports physio, and if all else fails goto a good chiro in your area.

wish i'd been to see 1 earlier ( ahh the benefit of hindsight )

I developed Osgood Slatus in my left knee(bone grows too fast for tendon. alternatively look up)when I was about 13, just when I'd started riding for real. I was told to rest, but for a semi hyper-active kid that's pretty hard. Had problems on/off ever since. Playing basketball+etc probably hasn't helped, but recently it has gotten worse. I'm 31yo and 5"11. Been taking anti-inflammatory(Cuprofen+ works well, but not good to do so much of, of course)knee supports, etc. Saw my GP last thurs and they said short of knee replacement this would be a life long issue. Have exercises to do and an appointment with a physio.
It's good to read this thread, simultaneously, depressing as hell. All I know is it's a massively complicated subject. Rest, train, exercise, try new ideas/concepts (swimming?) and do what the physio advises to exactement and there is hope. I'm counting on it. Good luck and try to learn as much about it as possible.

See a quack . Get a referral to a physio.

And stretch, stretch and stretch more. 20 minutes per day. Hamstrings, quads, calves, ITB, lower back. 2 minutes per leg

yes, I know it doesn't add up :)

ps. ITB massage hurts like hell. Enjoy if that is the issue!

what are the stretching techniques ? any links ?

prevention is better than the cure and all that

For the ITB stretch, it helps if someone shows you. At least, it did for me!

I did an 8 week yoga course and loved it

Pilates is very good, too.

If you don't get the giggles, of course!!

I've got chondromalacia patellae (apparently!!)), in English that means roughening of the inside of my kneecaps, it can get really painful!

But luckily I've got a fantastic Chiropractor (he got me walking again after my last car accident!), I'll ask him next time I see him if he's got a recommendation for your area!!

The best tip he gave me is to put the ball of my foot against the cupboard door in the kitchen (while I'm waiting for the kettle to boil!) with my heel on the floor, and to lean forward until I can feel it pulling at the back of my leg, not painfully, just pulling slightly, and to repeat it (gently!!) until the kettle boils!

It seems to have worked fantastically for me!!

But I agree with everyone else ... go see your gp, and get a referral to a chiropractor ... they're brilliant!!
