Not sure about heavier, Thomson X4 is lighter than X2 and monkeylite 31.8's are 150g

true, but x2's and x4's are a different design. would imagine the same design to be heavier (marginally) as with bars as there's more material.

marginal anyway i'd imagine.

personally i think it's uglier. everything's getting supersized on bikes. looks daft on my cx bike with it's skinny steel tubes. :roll:

Tintin's right though, the USE weave is nice. :D
 
I had both size USE on two Trimble frames. The OS was stiffer. And look better with the fat frame. was 15grams heavier
 
They are a bit stiffer and do look daft on skinny tubed bikes.

Main advantage is the increased clamp area of the stem reducing the crush risk, particularly on carbon bars.
