I updated my post, but pen drives are a god send :)

Un-luckly most of my back up hard drives are firewire connection. Being a Mac fan. But a quick look down the back of the sofar. So to speak. And a long lost USB with files.

If you lot keep all the good advice coming. GF may take up cycling. BUT she would have her eye on my 17'' trimble

I've used the free tools on this site to recover both HD & flash drives, (for when you pen drive fails ;-)

http://www.pcinspector.de/Sites/file_re ... language=1

There's seperate tools for HD & flash drives - managed to find a load of files even after a format & rebuild of a laptop XP drive, which then failed again.

Does what it saus on the tin but takes a long time if using a USB harddrive caddy - firewire / (e)Sata or internal would be quicker.

Cheers M.

What laptop is it anyway, most the newer Toshiba laptops have a mini firewire connection* .. to aid in the backup and good advice to see your wife on trimble...

(at least the newer one's, that being 3 or 4 years old)
