these judys came off a trek y-11, given 'em a little refurb including some homemade decals. rather pleased with my handy-work so i thought id show them off. The new paint has a some orange peel but then laquer is fresh so i havent had a chance to polish it yet.

Top work fellah  how did you make the decals?

come on prof, let us know how you made these, especially including what printer & materials you used.

I use adobe illustrator at work so this should be easy for me, I just don't have access to a vinyl cutter, but I am very good with a scalpel.

hello folks, sorry to keep you waiting.

i photographed the damaged decals and then remastered then in photoshop.

the decals are printed on water slide decal paper with a pretty cheap and cheerful injet printer (epson i think).

the paper is available in white or clear. i bought it from http://www.craftycomputerpaper.co.uk/ProductDetail.asp?ProductID=158&CatID=15.

once the decals are printed they cut out with a scalpel are sprayed with several coats of acrylic laquer (halfords finest ;)).

they are very simple to apply, you just immerse them in some tap water for 30 seconds then place them in position and slide the backing away from below. then blot the excess water away with kitchen roll. and leave to dry.
because i was applying them to fresh paint i could then laquer the whole item several times, to really seal them on.

you can see these stickers and more including some that i cut by hand from plain white vinyl that i have done here. http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=51386&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=15

i also did the decals for my kona seen here http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=51141.

just pm if you need more details.

Excellent- I've been looking at the Crafty Computer Paper stuff for a while- good to see that ye get nice clear colours from it, even on inkjet.

I shall be purchasing some soon.
