built: Marin team issue (rims's year problem:should i care?)

Old School Hero
hi, everybody...
There's a long time now that i'm picking some parts everywhere to do this built...my marin team issue supposed from 89/90...my first "prestigious" built ;)

I have now all the parts, excepted chains rings (i think i will buy some new...if I find something in the right aesthetic way...).

So I decided to go to bring my wheels to build...and then I realised a sort of mistake that i made...
My hubs are xt fh-m732 and hb-m730...I wanted araya rm-400 rims to do my wheels...Those rims are normally built around 1990 ;
But I just found some rm400 pro...who are from 93/94...I bought them, and realized today that the seller didn't told me they were rm400pro xc...who are from 95...with a color less shiny (less retro?)...

All the parts that I found for this bike are (excepted the fork) between 1989 and 1992...(xt and nos for the most of all) and I don't know if it's a "waste" to put those rims with those hubs, on this bike....

Some of you will maybe find my question derisory...or something like that...just tell me what you think about this case.

Because it will already have other non age specific parts why not use the rims.

But if you really want a catalogue build keep looking for all the parts and don't settle for anything less

My opinion is either go the whole original spec route or don't bother at all, can't see the point in just getting 75% original

Should you care.
No not really it not very important in life....

But hey, you wish really to build it up correctly and you want the correct rims.
So I would get it built with the 400 Pro XC (never new they did these, thought they only did the 400 Pro and the 395 Team*) and use it, then when the correct rims come along you can rebuild to them. I would expect the spoke to be the same.

*(395 are my favourite rim from BiTD)

i would say it doesnt matter (you dont seem overly bothered about non period correct chain rings) but having said that it must be playing on your mind to bring it up here!

use what you have to get it rideable and replace the rims when the correct ones come up

Yes, Huntso i thought about that...the problem is just to know when stopped;

I really don't want a catalogue build...I didn't search for original parts but for parts who were in the same aesthetic period than the frame...I just think there's sometimes a kind of logic between parts even if they have different years...and sometimes no because in one or two years the aesthetic has changed..(I'm not a specialist, and it's hard to explain myself in english...)
And there I don't know if those rim's are in the logic of the other parts...

And...yes Fluffy and lewis1641...I thought about that too... I will not should be lazy...and should have to spend a bit more money...But I could ride it this springtime!!!
Thank you guys for your opinion.

Guillaume , des photos SVP
meme si le montage ets pas fait ;)
meme conseil que lewis : il faut monter et utiliser et si tu tombes sur les bons cerceaux tu change :)

Strangely enough I built up a 93 Team Issue back to original spec, very lucky getting the tires, but spent ages looking for the right Seat Bolt

So we all agree then, use the rims to get it rideable and if you should see the ones you want get them
Strange how things turn up when you stop looking :D

Yes Huntso!
Hope you're right!!!
I imagine that you have spend ages for the 93 team issue!! It's seems to me impossible to find a marin stem in 1''...And I don't find SG chainrings...(it's why I want to buy some new...). Anyway, the problem was not the same for me, because i didn't found information about how was this bike originally...I just found the 1991 one...but it was not exactly the same frame...but this is not the question...

Yes make it rideable and take my time to find the good one is a good solution...
Mmm...I'm already thinking about which are the good one  Haha...

bduc61 ; j'ai quelques photos...je les compresse un peu et je me fais un plaisir de partager ça! (I'm sendind some pics).
Merci aussi pour les conseils :)

How cool is that!?!

What a lovely find.

I disagree with the others and would find some Black RM20's for that build.

Where there's doubt, there is no doubt! A motto well used by myself.

mmm...black not sure...but I'm agree with your motto...

Here are somes pics ; one of the frame in his actual state...one of the components...
