Re: Project 4: Orange Clockwork (Part 1 of 4)
Sounds great chaser, looking forward to seeing it.
Part 2 of 4: Controls
Stem: Syncros
The stem is a 1 1/8” a-head Syncros. I’ll be fitting it using a steerer shim to bring the 1” steerer to size. I’m not Syncros’s biggest fan it must be said as I’ve found many of their products to be substandard but their stems are excellent. Cantilevers will be used on this project so a Syncros cable hanger will be paired with the stem.
Bars: Renthal/Pace RC-130
Ask a group of motorcycle racers who makes the finest handlebars in the world and one name will reverberate around you, Renthal. They were only with us in mtb’s for a short while but made a lasting impression with their collaboration with Pace. Thus, I’m pairing the Renthal/Pace RC-130 bars with the Pace RC-30 forks.
Grips: ODI Tomac Attack
These grips have become my favourite old grips. I never had them back in the day but after using them on my last project I’m sold on them. I’m using bar ends so the ends have been cut off using a craft knife. Renthal grip glue is then used to secure them to the bars.
Bar Ends: ?
For the past week i've been rubbing down, filling dents with filler, filler priming and white priming a set a set of Answer Hyperlites. Only to discover that they won't fit the Renthal Bars, due to the integrated plugs on the bars. Now i'm not sure what to use, anybody any ideas?
Seatpost: Shimano XTR M910
I had this seat post ear marked for another project, but it’s the perfect size (26.8mm) and looks good fitted to this project. Not era correct as M910 was a couple of years younger than the project, but it feels right and looks right to me.
Saddle: Flite Titanium
It’s got to be a Flite and fortunately for me it came with one, and an orange one to boot. Should give a light racer look to the project.
