retitled-how do you strip xtr cranks

Whats the gray coating on the m952 xtr cranks and how do you strip it off without scratching the arms too much prior to polishing them up?

I dont want to attack it without first getting some info

just ride them , it will be gone within hours .

There can't be too may options, they're not chromed, so it leaves paint or annodizing, if it's paint nitromores, if it's annodized then caustic soda will take it off (careful with the mix though :shock:

)

Theres a few good threads for that, Andy L's cooks refurb and IIRC defiant has a post or a spot on his blog about ano removal. Also there was a guy??? the one with the ibis bow ti that would water jet logo's too.
