Can someone explain to me the differences between post and IS disc brake mounts. What do they look like and what is now the norm on modern bikes?

Trevor.

IS mounts are those where to bolts screw in perpendicular to the frame and you adjust caliper position with washers. Post mount are what you find on most modern forks and the bolts go in line with the frame allowing the caliper to be shimmied from side to side for correct positioning. Post mount is becoming the norm on forks but mainly IS on frames.

post mount is waay faster to set up & is vastly prefered by mechanics everywhere.
