Had a tip off from a LBS that cycle wholesalers could be a major way forward in sourcing retro parts. Has anyone done this and what would be required to buy from them (membership? VAT number? etc).

I work for a nationwide wholesaler (not bike parts) I think you will find that wholesalers do not hang on to old stock for very long, once it has been replaced by a new model the old stuff is discounted to get rid of it and make room for new stuff.
