I killed my facebook account...

I have friends all around the world (largely from studying/cycling abroad) and facebook lets me keep up with them on a daily basis. There's no way that I'd have anywhere near the level of contact with people by just using email/photo sharing/skype. There are some people whom I would certainly have fallen out of contact with, despite being very good friends at some point, but have kept in touch and met up again in the real world thanks to the ease of communication facebook provides. For example I recently started an 'event' saying I'd be in Copenhagen for a week and inviting others to come that week too. It took 10mins to invite dozens of people I met at uni there (instead of several hours of email/phone calls/letters) and now I'm meeting friends from Italy, Poland, Germany, Denmark and Canada there. That's a good thing.
The Big Brother element is a real concern but I'm pretty sure the Forward Intelligence Teams know all about me already. It's not a terribly popular thing to say at the moment, especially among the fairly hippie/lefty/dirty student circles in which I move, but facebook actually improves my life quite a bit and lets me spend LESS time on a computer.

I have to admit it ..... I am now a fan of Facebook ... sorry!!
I originally joined because I was nagged by a couple of friends of mine, and I was seriously dubious! But then I got back in touch with quite a few people who used to be really good friends, and who I lost touch with over the years, and one of those is my cousin in Canada, I've never met but we used to be penpals when we were about 10, and now 20 years later .... we're back in touch again ... how cool is that?!
I almost never update my status on Facebook, and very rarely check it, but it does mean that I can keep up with my friends from all over the world, so I think it's FAB!!
Networking has it's uses!

I find it quite insincere TBH, but an interesting twist to socialising, for now I'm keeping it even if it does give you a different angle to view your friends and family etc, and more chance to speak to others where you've not had a chance before...
Me being me I'm still in double figures of 'friends' and like to think at least 85% of them are friends that i have lots time for, still strange though. 2 friends from school on there, which is probably something like right.
