Thanks for that... I just googled both of those and neither look like my derailleur. Those ones seem to have a campy emblem on them rather than the "word" campagnolo in scrolled text. Having said that, the release of both of those does fall in line with my Atala being about the '87 mark...

Not much difference between the two, but the 990 has more shaping to the cage. The 980 has a simpler, thinner cage.

By the looks of that picture - it is very similar to mine indeed. That also falls in line very closely to the year of manufacture of my frame. Thanks for the info and the link. Do you have an opinion on the quality of the 990 at all? I've not ridden the bike more than about 10mtrs.

980/990 was towards the lower end of the Campag range, fitted to cheaper Italian sports/leisure bikes. Notionally similar in level to today's Mirage or maybe Veloce, I'd say. It probably worked as well as Nuovo Record, but weighed more. A SunTour Cyclone from the same period would shift better - but it wasn't Campag.qvw":hpo9cl7h said:
