Im having trouble getting the downtube shifters to keep tension on the cable resulting in rear mech falling back down to bottom cog :(

Any helpfull tips and advice appreciated ;)

Are the shifters worn?

the shifters seem to be tightened down :?

I think shledon brwon call this auto shifting .

i had same problem with some xc pro thumbshifters , and as advised by the great man himself , all i had to do was clean and grease the cables under the BB .

worked fine ever since .

Sheldon Brown saved my U-Brake..... one of the best resources out there :D

Are they clamp-on or braze-on?

If they're clamp on and there isn't a little stud under the tube then they can slip down the tube under tension.

If they're braze-ons then this is a situation where lubrication isn't a help when assembling them, Dry but clean is better!

i just

think they are screwed :(

Ive tried all-sorts but to no avail!

I reckon after much faffing that it as worn away inside.

I managed to find a pair of NOS replacements for decent money ;)

The bike/project will be unveiled once they have arrived and been fitted :D
