Good thing the item was a BUY-IT-NOW and ended before you post here. If it was an ongoing auction, I would had bid against you after your posting.

That crown would have gone nicely with my Manitou frame

I think the basics of simple economic priciples is passing you by here. Supply and demand, and also the fact that profit is NECESSARY. If it wasn't for publication, via the ebay search engine, or through here, stuff would sell for peanuts, and then people wouldn't bother. We'd then have econic collapse of the retrobike parts scene and we'd all be stuffed.

I'll pop it another way. I'm brave and a chancer. Thats why I ran my own busness. Its also why and how I killed my own business. On the back of chance, I have MANY TIMES, invested a WHOLE HEAP of cash, on stashes of parts from the US, from down under, from all over, in order to benifit us all. The fact is, you can't get a guy in Canada to rummage through a warehouse of goods for a single Cooks lockring for example. Its not worth his while for $5. So I've got myself into the situation MANY TIMES where the only way to get the part, is to buy the WHOLE inventory. I get my part. And I try and get my cash back selling on ebay, and trawling the wanteds. I don't want to post like an 'Arthur Daley' in the calassifieds. Whats the point. Most of you know I had/have 200 chainsuck plates for example (Word of mouth here says you know where to come, for Ringlé parts especially as thats my fancy/specialism). All because I wanted 3 plates for my projects. If I wans't able to sell for a reasonable price (or profit in your eyes), I can't sell the stuff, and buy the next stash and carry on helping myself and others out. I don't advertise on ebay watch as its not the idea of this site to self publicise (but occasionally others spot my stuff), and I too have closed many great buys for myself off the back of the ebay watch.

This is a valuable asset to us all. If you don't like the game, dont play. Simple.

I find it amusing people think that because an item is 'outed' here, it will achieve a higher final selling price. In my experience, the retrobike crowd are a discerning bunch and are the least likely to bid over the odds for a part, it is the random element (from the point of view of this community) who go crazy for items.

Parts such as Butterscotch Psycho's or white Onza Porc's, M900 XTR etc. sell for less in the 'For Sale' section than they make on eBay (assuming the seller lists shipping to Germany ).

I'd say that most of us are performing searches on a daily basis, sure badly listed stuff flies under the radar occasionaly, but not often. I spend a portion of my time specifically searching for badly listed parts.

Also you complained of someone being childish, yet you openly admit this bizarre rant is based on a purely selfish motive. I find selfish people to be very childish.

Bottom line is eBay links pay for the site and loads of us have been helped on builds by the parts so kindly found by others.

I am speaking from a buyer's point of view. Yes, the original post was a rant/vent because I lost on an eBay item I really wanted for a long time.

Surely everyone knows the first rule of every auction: NEVER show you are interested in an item and staying quiet till the end. The second rule is “See the first rule.” It doesn't help when members are broadcasting it to everyone. Yes, people here are a knowledgeable crowd.

Buyer's point of view. Not the seller's point of view. The fewer the players the better. No other bidders to compete with?.....even better for the buyer.

This is the first time I experience a crowd who cares about random unknown sellers, their financial well-being, and making sure they don't "get ripped off" (not my words). If the seller was a retroBIKE members, I wouldn't mind paying more for his items. Disposible income is something I have. Being stupid at an auction is something I am not used to.

From my neck of the wood, everbody like a bargain or paying less than retail. EVERYBODY! Paying 50 euros is better than paying 100 euros. You were considered a smart shopper if you can get the same lower priced jacket somewhere else (just an example). Can I assume that people here don't haggle when they buy a new or used car? A house? Paying anything less would be considered a sin? You are, afterall, "profiting off other people's ignorance"(those are not my words).

Anyways, I realize I am just a lonely buyer in a pool of retroBike sellers.

You come on here with barely a post to your name with an arguement that everyone has said was confrontational and unnecessary , leaving yourself wide open for all manner of critism?

I think you got off lightly - out in the real world it would have been a fat lip and your football punctured.

Well on the other hand there were some occasions where I hardly wanted or a bike or a part and hoped it wouldnt get on Ebaywatch. Well guess what, I appeared there.
Other retrobikemember seen it and they comment some f.e. failures of missing parts wich in "happyness of finding it at least of good reading of the ad" it stopped me wanting it and buy a dissapointment.

On the other hand I have made with some other fellowmembers who also wanted the part a "if you like it more I wont bid on it" deal.
