Bottom bracket help please folks,

1992 Deore DX cranks,
68mm Bottom bracket shell width,
1998 Orange clockwork,

What length axle do I need?

I hate to contradict Sheldon but 122.5 sounds a tad long to me. Can you borrow a BB from someone to try first?
 
It's so hard to know - I usually have in 4 BB's of different lengths (old knackered ones that cost nothing to buy) and fit them as test rigs - then I know what to get and spend actual money on). You can usually get some old UN51's on Ebay for a few quid to act as the guinea pigs!
 
Good idea! I'll have a root around my LBS workshop when the tame guy is on and see what I come up with.

Having measured it 122.5 does seem a bit long as you say, they need about 120 as they will almost go on the 115 that holds my XTR M900 cranks.

120 seems about right from memory. I had some 92 XT which went on what seems a massive axle by today's comaprisons. I am fairly sure it was a 120
