Now I am going out to the states in April, The plan is to buy a bike out there ride it for 3 weeks then bag it up and bring it back with me paying the £25 bike luggage bag costs?

Now am I looking through rose tinted glasses here or am I going to get collered and charged taxes etc?

I cant see it being any different from going touring and taking your own bike with you?

Any experence or advise would be welcome?

Cheers

Should be fine, especially if the bike you're bringing back is nice and muddy

The paranoid importer would buy / take an old set of tyres as well

The really paranoid would take an old bike and dump it out there.

Thats the only thing I was thinking ...would they be bothered enough to check if I took one out?

More to the point a dirty bike in a dirty bag ...Would they really be bothered at all ? :?

Most likely not.

Oh, and post the receipt and documentation home to yourself. Don't have it in your hand luggage!

Needless to say, don't stuff the seat tube full of crack, either

yes I would say to take an old bike with you , just to be safe .
I know a lot of people who done that and had no trouble bringing them back .
