How much seatpost is too much?

Or does this look wrong (sorry for not really retro content)?

Bike fits fine, top tube is plenty long enough, headtube is slighty extended and the matched stem(not pictured) is long and zero degrees. Only problem is seattube is quite 'short' hence a long seatpost which may be unacceptable...

Whatever is comfortable is OK in my opinion. It depends on whether you can get down onto the 'bars without breaking your back! Looking at some of the positions of pro's then they aren't that low! I've got 'yards' of seat pin on my Giant TCR - but it's a 'compact' so slightly different.

This will be my 'modern' TT bike next season with tri-bars etc.

Oh, and it will have brakes as well :D

Fit is fine and similar to my other road bikes. Just not sure about the long post on a standard frame...

But it's not that standard, it's very much in the design of a cyclocross bike (which is what steelman specialise in, isn't it- it has an extended headtube which lowers the effective top tube and it has a fastback seatstay arrangement which creates a very low seat tube (ie no seat tube clamp etc) which makes the seatpost look a load long than it actually is in comparison to a 'standard' frame.

Personally I like the look of it (I've always like Steelmans)

It's fine if you don't mind the 'ejector seat' look. :LOL:

Just kidding, personally I like the way it looks and as long as there's enough seatpost inserted and there's no problems involving posture then carry on John.

Yes, there's a lot of seatpin showing compared with the traditional set up on bikes with a horizontal top tube. But if you look at the position of the brake levers and the saddle, the riding position is very similar to eg this bike from another thread.

It's just that the set up on the bike in this thread has a very large drop in height from the brake levers to the top tube. Also the Flite saddle needs more seatpin out of the frame compared with the Rolls.
