Old Skid Lids, any interest, or chuck it in the bin?

I have a 1992 ish Gyro (Giro?) Hammerhead, which seemed to be THE helmet to have at the time, stopped using it when I got an Air Banshee about 97/98 .....

Is there any interest in these old helmets, do people buy them to go with their retro rides? It's been sitting in a cupboard at my mum's for years collecting dust so do I just chuck it? (I need to have a good clearout of everything!)

:D

highly adviseable not to use it. UV damage if nothing else. no idea if they're worth anything collector value?
I've got a herbold shoei helmet, doubt its worth much tho.

Yeah, I've got an old Giro Hammerhead SC, hardly used, never crashed, dark-stored so no UV degradation... If it fitted me I'd be using it! Damn my large head...

I'd never sell (or buy) a second hand helmet to actually use... not aware of any value to collectors either... :?

I'm still using my Specialized Mountain Man... It's definately due for replacement though - what's currently good?! Not looked in a long time! Are Specialized still any good? :)

Mmmm....

Wasn't really aware of this UV degredation thing?

Got me wondering about my Air Banshee now, I've already been looking closely at it, anyway you can tell if it's still ok or do they just have a known shelf life, must be nearly 10 years old now?

Didn't think the Hammerhead would be worth much at all but just wondered if people like to have all the retro kit as well with the bike, but I wouldn't be happy buying a used one either, mine's been looked after never dropped or crashed etc ... but no one ever looks after stuff better than yourself ;)

Think it'll end up in the loft to be brought out when I'm sitting in my own pee to make me smile :D don't think I can bring myself to bin it!

So, yeah, what is good these days, it's not something you look at much until you need one .... any recommendations, I do like one that's small and doesn't look like a huge bucket on your head?
